The Custom House was my first stay in a hostel of any kind, and I'm afraid I'm spoiled. Marcus, the owner, was a great host, the accomodations were great, there was a picturesque yacht club wharf a few hundred feet down the rd and the best fish n chips in Nelson next door. Also had a lot of different beers on tap. I wish there was a Custom House in every town I travel to in the future.

Next time we're ever in Nelson we'll stay there again. Really well decorated, close to town and clean with lots of facilities.

Nice bar, friendly staff, character house.... free internet, coffee & tea are a bonus....one of the rooms facing the road can be a bit noisy as close to the road....

A really great place to stay in Nelson. The hostel is newlt refurbished and the facilities are super. Downstairs common area are beautifully set with leather couches everywhere, a great tv lounge with loads of DVDs and Sky TV, fantastic kitchen, nice bar, great dorms and showers. Owner is dead on. Couldnt recommend it enough. Its a small bit of a walk from the centre but Nelson is quiet so its not like you're in and out every ten minutes.

A really lovely place. Our room was clean and bright, and the staff were incredibly helpful. It is a bit more then a 10 min walk to town, but they have close access to some really nice restaurant and a waterfront view just down the street.
