I was really impressed with the Hanakiya Inn. The home itself is cute, but the owner is even cuter - she clearly loves talking to people from different places.
The outer door has two locks on it and each personal room has a lock, so security is great. It's a 10 min. walk from Kiyomizudera and 15 min. bus ride from Kyoto St. I highly, highly, highly recommend this location.

The inn felt cozy and familiar and with only three guest rooms and the owners upstairs it really did feel like a family guest house. The rooms were spacious and the facilities clean and adequate. It was also nice to have the common living room to chat with other guests over breakfast. The location also couldn't have been better for sightseeing. We had a great stay!

nice place. the owner is very professional. sometimes a little too friendly. the most clean place we have been at so far.
do not miss the cafe "efish" on the other side of the river. nice staff, beautiful view, interesting pottery and design stuff. mostly students and free wlan.

This little hostel is nestled away in the back streets of Kyoto and makes for an authentic feeling Japanese stay. Not far from the station, so handy if you are arriving by Shinkansen. The rooms are in beautiful traditional style and the shared common room with free internet is great. Perfect if you are after some peace after a big day exploring this beautiful city.

An excellent hostel for an authentic experience. Located in an interesting and traditional area, with lovely Japanese-style rooms. Excellent value for money. Only complaints are that the room was a bit cold and noisy overnight. But generally excellent. Highly recommended.

The house mother is very great, she is very helpful and friendly. Everyone is very nice in the house. It is very hommy.

Highly recommended. Emi was super friendly host and very helpful. Location could not have been better as central to main temple precinct and walking distance to Gion. Will be using whenever I visit Kyoto again!
